YSTAD is a stylish and functional shelf, handcrafted in Denmark with great care. The shelf is made of solid, untreated brass, which gives it a warm and vibrant look and develops a natural patina over time.
Its simple form allows the material to be the primary element, while the countersunk holes create a clean and minimalist expression in line with Acier Studio's universe. YSTAD fits naturally in the living room, hallway, or bathroom as a functional element that will develop its own character over time and become part of the home's history.
YSTAD is made from untreated brass – meaning the shelf is neither lacquered nor sealed, but presented in its pure, natural form. This is a conscious choice. Brass is a living material that reacts to its surroundings and to touch. Over time, the surface will change in shade and develop a unique patina, making each shelf personal.
All products are handmade and thoroughly quality-checked before leaving the workshop near Aarhus.

About brass and patina
Brass is a living material, and each shelf may therefore have its own natural expression from the start. Minor variations in color and surface, as well as black dots or slight scratches from handwork, may occur. These are not flaws but a natural part of the material and manufacturing process, which makes each shelf unique.
Over time, untreated brass develops a natural patina. The surface may change in shade from golden and shiny to deeper, warmer, and more nuanced tones depending on air, moisture, and touch. In this way, the shelf continues to develop character and becomes more personal over time.

Daily cleaning is easily done with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid soaking the surface in water.
Avoid
Avoid acidic, alkaline, chlorine-based or solvent-based cleaning products – these can cause staining or discolouration.
After cleaning
After cleaning, we recommend drying with a soft cloth to prevent water spots and streaks.
Pay special attention
Pay special attention to edges and joints, where liquid or residue may collect and cause discolouration over time.

WHY BRASS?
We focus on premium materials. Brass carries a warmth and depth that few materials can match, with a natural surface that deepens in character rather than staying static. Unlike inert materials, brass is alive – it responds to touch, air, and time, and grows more distinctive the longer it is used.
Warmth: Brass offers a rich, golden tone that no other metal can replicate. Its surface catches light differently in every room, bringing a quiet warmth to spaces that steel and aluminium leave cold.
Character: Brass develops a natural patina over time – subtle shifts in tone, small marks from daily use, a gradual deepening from bright gold to richer, warmer hues. This is not a flaw but the material's defining quality, a mark of authenticity that cannot be manufactured.
Craftsmanship: Brass rewards handling and care. It is a softer, more organic material than stainless steel, shaped and finished by hand rather than mass-produced. A quality that harder, more uniform metals cannot replicate.
Our pieces are designed, handcrafted, and warehoused in our local workshop in Aarhus, Denmark. By producing in smaller volumes and working with trusted specialists, we keep quality close and support local hands and local communities.
